How Treyson Powersports Supports People with Disabilities
Trevor was 29 when his entire life changed. The skills he had depended on for his livelihood, his business and his recreation suddenly were no longer accessible.
The shop he had once easily navigated, suddenly was full of obstacles. Narrow doorways were impassable, equipment that was once useful now blocked his chair, the bathroom was not even close to being big enough for his chair.
Trevor had to rethink and relearn not only how he lived day to day, but also how he could keep his business alive and earn a living.
"When I was paralyzed I was fortunate enough to have this business to tweak and keep going forward. Others aren’t as fortunate. I 100% understand and respect that now. I see how difficult daily living with a disability is. I want to empower others with similar disabilities or hardships and give them a flexible and accessible space to work and build upon their dreams as I have."
At Treyson Powersports, Trevor offers life coaching and training sessions to individuals who want to learn maintenance and repair skills. Currently, the opportunities for learning new skills are focused on powersport mechanics and riding. We hope to grow to provide marketing, administrative and sales opportunities for disabled persons as well. Treyson Powersports supports individuals with disabilities and provides them with a platform to grow and gain independence.
Normally, employment for disabled persons is limited due to many factors including the nature of the physical disability itself, limiting or poorly designed work environments, the need to attend medical appointments, lack of skills/training, and an inability to stand or physically work for a full 8 hour day or 40 hour work week
Treyson Powersports overcomes barriers by providing a supportive, non discriminating physical and psychosocial environment. Being disabled himself, Trevor is able to meet individuals where they are at physically and support their unique needs.
